To mark World Heritage Day we have a different kind of 'heritage' project all planned out. The young, creative and innovative #WEAREFROMHERE will present and talk about the challenges of preserving and promoting the 'living' heritage of Slave Island.

Homegrown in this unique and historic community #WEAREFROMHERE is a young locally-based visual arts project, aiming to change the mainstream perception of Slave Island/Kompanya Veediya as an area of slums and shanties full of drug dealers, crime and danger.

On local walls, on social media and other platforms #WEAREFROMHERE showcases the people who make Slave Island/Kompanya Veediya the vibrant, diverse and resilient place it is.

Guided tours and other visual and storytelling formats are also being utilized not only to tell the story of this remarkable community and area but to also to highlight the plight of a community under threat by developers and the rapid modernization of Colombo.
