Our work in education

Through partner organisations, the British Council has established networks of non-formal girls clubs which are effective in reducing barriers, developing girls’ English and digital skills.

Our Improving Teacher Education in Sri Lanka Project moved away from its normal face to face teacher educator training in March 2020 and moved into the virtual world.

The British Council in Sri Lanka, together with the Ministry of Education, launch the proceedings of the Sri Lankan English Language Teacher Educator Conference (SLELTEC) held in March 2020.

The evaluation found that the training was successful in opening up new possibilities in teaching approaches and largely successful in achieving the desired outcomes.

The Improving Teacher Education in Sri Lanka (ITESL) Impact Evaluation report was launched online bringing in speakers from the field of education. The report is now publicly available.

A competition to collect best practice in English teacher lesson planning and English teacher educator session planning activities. Winning materials will be displayed at SLELTEC 2020.

Through our higher education activities, the younger generation gain a wider understanding of both their country and the world around them.

Commonwealth Class is a collaborative effort of the British Council, BBC and Commonwealth Secretariat providing online debates, teaching resources and interactive activities for schools.

We provide a number of educational services, including English language teaching, teacher training and material and curriculum development – to public and private sectors.

The British Council is pleased to be working with the Government of Sri Lanka on its education reform programme.

The English language assessment competition grew out of our work with teacher educators, both pre and in -service, in the state sector in Sri Lanka.
