The English teams in Sri Lanka and Nepal showcased a short video on online teacher education during the pandemic at the University of Oxford’s SA Regional Education in Crisis Conference 2021 on 23 and 24th July. It was part of the conference’s Innovation Spotlight Series.
Until the pandemic both countries had been resistant to moving online in English language teacher education. Attitudes to CPD were that face to face was the most widely used, trusted and impactful, due in large part to a lack of technology and connectivity and to a lack of experience in training virtually. With the initial pandemic, perception started to change and with the ongoing situation, both countries are trialling and adopting the new delivery mode effectively and optimistically. The video presentation explores this and looks to the future which supports the case for an adoption of a more online or blended approach to English language teacher education
