The British Council has introduced a project that will excite school children about reading. The Book Box project aims to foster a love of books in kids. It supports the development of literacy and improves their reading skills as well.
Age Range:
8 - 11 year olds
Cost:
Rs. 200 per child, the co-ordinating teacher gets a free library membership if they get us 10 new library members.
What is the project?
British Council provides a box of about 75 books (enough for 50 kids) for 6 weeks. A teacher in the school manages the box of books, issues books to students and records them on the record sheet provided. The pupils should read a book a week.
At the end of Week 3, British Council will hold a free “Book Review” workshop for children participating in the Book Box project. All students will receive a notebook and branded pen at the end of the workshop.
The workshop will be held on a Saturday at the British Council.
Students write and submit a review in Week 4 of the book they read in Week 3. The same happens in Weeks 5 and 6.
At the end of the six weeks, there is an awards ceremony and participants receive a certificate.
