About the performers

Ashanthi De Alwis

Panellist

Ashanthi De Alwis is the queen of Sri Lankan Pop. An artiste who has proved herself by pushing boundaries with her music locally and internationally, winning many international awards for her compositions. She is now geared to shed light on important social issues that affect the youth and women in Sri Lanka.

ELSZ is a producer, harpist, vocalist and dancer based in New York. ELSZ is recording at NYC’ oldest recording studio with Grammy Award winning engineer Jeremy Loucas. She released singles Bright Eyes in 2017 and Poison on International Women's day 2016. Poison is dedicated to victims and survivors of gender based violence, with all proceeds being donated to Women in Need, SL. She has toured internationally, playing major festivals such SXSW, EMC & BIGSOUND.

Umara is the youngest female artist in Sri Lanka to have collaborated with the legendary international artist Shankar Mahadevan also known as Shankar Ehsaan Loy. She was also the first female and the youngest Music Audio Engineer in Sri Lanka, until she left for Hong Kong a few years ago to pursue her music career in art of jazz music.

First Womens Drums Ensemble in Sri Lanka

Shaping with the essences of Kandyan, Low country and Sabaragamu traditional Sri lankan percussion art, mixing with offshore percussion music along the way, Thuryaa's ultimate goal is to explore and develop a novel trend in the Sri lankan percussion art scene. Sithara Maduwanthi, the leader of Thuryaa was the first female student enrolled in the percussion music department of the University of Visual & Performing Art; Colombo.

First Sri Lankan Tibetan Buddhist nun

Venerable  Tenzin Lekdron was ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, in India. After the earth quake in Nepal she relocated to Sri Lanka the country of her birth. Here, she founded Tara Lanka, the country's first Tibetan Buddhist study group and now works tirelessly for the Buddha's message of peace and loving kindness.

Rooted in the multiplicity of her movement experience and practice, Eva Priyanka Wegener’s interests are socio-political and mind-body-spirit related. She is curious about creating awareness through inner/outer movement, stillness and dynamic awareness within oneself and a (spontaneous) community. She investigates and plays with roles between 'performer' and 'audience'.

Fiona helps us understand the science behind yoga. Mantra and Gong are used to connect to the limbic, rhythm centre in the brain, freeing it from negative mind patterns. Her philosophy is that by understanding the self, and learning emotional intelligence, a person can free themselves to live a happy, healthy and fulfilled life.

Sri Lankan Tamil light songs vocalist

Mayalahu has been performing in the Tamil light song industry for more than 25 years. She has had a number of original songs, along with a few devotional songs. She has sung and dubbed voice for hundreds of commercials. She lists singing for the Chogm Commonwealth Countries event as the greatest opportunity she's ever had. Performing with Sri lankan musical bands, she has trained herself to sing in Tamil, Singhala and Hindi languages to entertain her fans. Mayalahu has also worked as a DJ announcer for a leading Tamil fm radio station in Sri Lanka.

Nelu Adikari

Nelu Adikari

Singer

Nelu is a highly sought after eastern classical singer who completed her Vishard exams in Bhathkanda in 1993. She has worked at Vidura College and Royal College as a music teacher. She started her professional career after singing in Sudo Sudu, a teledrama directed by Parakkrama Niriella. She has also won the Raigam Teledrama award.
