IELTS with the British Council just got better! Results typically in 1-3 days with IELTS on computer

We are pleased to announce that from January 2025 all IELTS tests will be delivered on computer only, providing a faster, more efficient, and streamlined testing experience for test takers.

IELTS on Paper and IELTS on Computer have the same test format, questions, scoring. IELTS on Computer also offers significant benefits to test takers at no additional cost: 

  • Faster results: Receive your results in 1-3 days
  • Faster booking: Book your test as late as two day before registration closes.
  •  More test dates: Choose a test date on more days throughout the week.
  • One Skill Retake, which is only available with IELTS on Computer, allows you to retake just one part of the test – Listening, Speaking, Reading or Writing

Where can you take IELTS in Sri Lanka or the Maldives?

You can find convenient British Council IELTS exam dates in sixteen official IELTS text centres across Sri Lanka. You can choose to take your IELTS test on paper or on a computer. Whichever you prefer, you need to come to a test centre to sit your test.

IELTS exam schedules and timings in Sri Lanka

Your Listening, Reading, and Writing sections of the test will be completed on the same day with no break in between. We are running tests in the morning and in the afternoon. All sessions allow social distancing. Morning sessions are usually between 9.00 am and 12.30 pm. Afternoon sessions are usually between 1.00 pm and 4.30 pm. On selected days we have an evening session between 5.00 pm and 8.30 pm.

If you take IELTS on paper, your Speaking test will take place on a different day to the other sections of the test, in a 7-day window before or after the main test day. You will receive an email confirming your Speaking test date 48 hours in advance. 

If you take IELTS Online, the Speaking test will usually be before your Listening, Reading and Writing. It could be on the same or a different day.

You can choose your IELTS Speaking test slot in Sri Lanka whether you take IELTS on a computer or on paper. If we need to change your slot due to unavoidable unforeseen reasons, we will notify you by email or phone.

Your IELTS on computer test report form
If you have taken IELTS Online or IELTS on computer, you will receive your results electronically only. You can download the electronic version (eTRF) from the Test Taker portal 3-8 days after your test. We will not issue an additional paper Test Report Form. You can print your electronic Test Report Form (eTRF) to send it to the organisations you are applying to, or you can send it via email. Alternatively, you can send your results directly to the organisation through the Test Taker portal.
